Recycling at a Glance
How much waste does the average U.S. citizen produce per year?
According to the EPA, the average U.S. citizen produces about 4.4 lbs of waste per day. (This is the equivalent of over 1600 pounds of trash per year per person or more than 220 tons of waste being generated each year.)

4 Reasons why we should recycle

  1. Recycling reduces our use of Landfills and incinerators because it reduces the amount of garbage we throw away by 25 to 50%
  2. Recycling protects our health and environment because it removes harmful substances and pollution from the waste stream, which is all of the waste or garbage in our community
  3. Recycling conserves our natural resources because it reduces our need for raw materials.
  4. Recycling saves money. On a national average we throw away 27 billion glass containers each year.
